  • Dropping/throwing food

Hi, any tips to get my 12 month old son to stop dropping/throwing his food off the high chair. He is a great eater, but he will take a bite or two then throw the rest of the ground, pick up the next piece of same item and repeat.

The dog is outside now for meal times so no distraction. He has all his hungry cues and will start off great, pick up the loaded spoons or start to use the fork/spoon himself to pick up the food but then half way through he will start to drop it on the ground but still appears to be hungry.

Also does this with the water bottle, drinks and then let’s go and straight on the floor but it’s not an accident, his intentionally doing it.

    Thanks,

    Dani

    Hi Dani,

    Apologies we missed this one!

Throwing food is completely normal at this stage! The best thing we can do is not give it a reaction! A lot of people suggest that this may be a sign of fullness however it’s not really one I would end the meal based off.

I would give it 3-4 chances and generally avoid picking the food up and putting it back as it really becomes a game when we do this and exacerbates the issue!
