Oats are a great choice for baby's breakfast, they're full of whole grain carbohydrates (a great energy source for growing bubs), protein and fibre. They are also very budget friendly and versatile when it comes to mixing up flavour combinations. Many parents find they get stuck in a porridge rut though and their little one's can get to a stage where they lose interest or even refuse it. So here are 5 ways to mix up the morning porridge and make it a little bit more enticing for bub (and the rest of the family)!

1. Pumpkin pie

This is great if you have left over roast pumpkin from dinner. Mash it up and stir it through with some almond butter and cinnamon.

2. Spiced apple

Dice up some apple and quickly microwave with water covering the apple so it stays nice and juicy. Once soft stir through porridge with some cinnamon.

3. Carrot cake porridge

Simply grate some carrot and apple in before cooking, then stir in some cinnamon and a sprinkle of nutmeg to your oats.

4. PB and jam porridge fingers

Whip up some chia jam by adding ¼ of a cup of frozen raspberries and ½ tsp of chia seed. Microwave for 30 seconds and set aside for a few minutes to cool and form a jelly. In the meantime, make your oats and stir through some peanut butter (1 tsp). Add dollops of the chia jam on top and then return to the microwave for another 2-3 minutes. This will dry the porridge out further and once cooled you can slice into porridge fingers. These make a great finger food!

5. Savoury eggy porridge

There are so many recipes out there, but this one makes use of left over veggies and has egg for an extra nutrition boost, so it's a favourite. Cook your porridge before adding in chopped up left over veggies, any spices (cumin and paprika work well) and 1 egg. Stir through and pop back into the microwave until the egg is cooked through.
