One Tray Bake-Satay Chicken With Steamed Rice and Green Beans

Written by: Jeanette Blandford | Published on May 28, 2025
A budget-friendly one-tray satay chicken the whole family can share — tender, flavour-packed and easily adapted for everyone from babies starting solids to the grown-ups at the table.

It is another one tray easy family meal from us here! With some simple modifications this is one that is suitable for everyone at the table including babies just getting into solids. We have also been super budget conscious with this recipe, with it coming in at just under $20.00. This meal fed a family of four for two separate dinners.

Quick Recipe Snapshot

Prep time: 15 minutes
Cook time: 50 minutes
Serves: family-style (6-8)
Freezer friendly: Yes
Texture: tender chicken with rice and soft green beans

Age & Texture Guidance

From around 6 months with texture modification.
6-8 months: serve the drumstick whole with skin and loose pieces removed (great for oral motor development), or in large finger-food pieces. Rice and whole soft green beans are fine. Always supervise.
9-12 months: offer thinly sliced chicken.
12 months+: small bite-sized pieces, building up to larger chunks and the whole drumstick.

Allergens Present

Contains peanut (peanut butter) and soy (soy sauce).

Allergen Substitutions

Peanut butter can’t be swapped in a satay, so if peanut isn’t suitable try another of our one-tray bakes. You can swap the soy sauce for coconut aminos.

Why We Love This Recipe

One tray, one meal for the whole family
Budget-friendly and stretches across two dinners
A tasty way to keep up regular peanut exposure
