4 Meals for Bub in 5 minutes or Less!

Written by: Jeanette Blandford | Published on May 28, 2025

Four nutrient-dense purée and mashed meals for bub, each ready in less than 5 minutes — because starting solids is exciting, but finding time to cook every meal is a lot. Real nutrition, minimal effort.

We know that starting solids (although exciting!) can also be really overwhelming. Finding the time in an already busy day to make bub's meals can be a lot. So we have created 4 super easy puree/mashed meals that can be made in LESS THAN 5 MINUTES! Of course, in addition to being easy they also include nutrient dense ingredients.

Quick Recipe Snapshot

Prep time: 5 minutes or less per meal
Cook time: Minimal (microwave only, if any)
Serves: 1 bub, with excess to freeze for some meals
Freezer friendly: Yes (bean and salmon mash freezes well)
Texture: Fork-mashed — easily adjusted

Age & Texture Guidance

Suitable from around 6 months, once bub has started solids.

6–9 months: mash thoroughly with a fork, adding a splash of water or milk for a smoother texture.
9–12 months: a chunkier fork mash is great for developing chewing skills — the apple and ricotta mix can even be rolled into balls as a finger food.
12 months+: serve chunkier again, or spread any of the mashes on toast fingers.

Allergens Present

Across the four meals:
• Fish (sardines, salmon)
• Dairy (ricotta cheese)
• Wheat / gluten (Weet-Bix)
• Sesame (in the mixed seeds)
• Peanut (optional peanut butter)

Allergen Substitutions

• Fish: swap sardines or salmon for mashed chickpeas or lentils (add a little olive oil for the healthy fats).
• Dairy: use a plant based ricotta alternative or thick coconut yoghurt.
• Wheat: use a wheat free baby cereal or quick oats instead of Weet-Bix.
• Sesame / peanut: simply leave out the seeds or peanut butter, or use hemp seeds only.

Why We Love This Recipe

• Every meal is done in 5 minutes or less
• Built on pantry and freezer staples — no special shopping trip
• Each meal packs in iron, protein and healthy fats
• Great for keeping up fish, dairy, wheat and seed exposure
• Excess freezes well so nothing goes to waste
