Stuck in a porridge rut? Here are five easy ways to mix up bub's morning oats — from carrot cake to savoury eggy porridge — using ingredients you already have at home.

Oats are a great choice for baby's breakfast, they're full of whole grain carbohydrates (a great energy source for growing bubs), protein and fibre. They are also very budget friendly and versatile when it comes to mixing up flavour combinations. Many parents find they get stuck in a porridge rut though and their little one's can get to a stage where they lose interest or even refuse it. So here are 5 ways to mix up the morning porridge and make it a little bit more enticing for bub (and the rest of the family)!

Age & Texture Guidance

Suitable from 6 months.

6–9 months: serve smooth and slightly runny — thin with breastmilk, formula or water as needed.

12 months+: serve as is.

Allergens Present

Depending on the variation you choose:
• Peanuts (peanut butter in the PB and jam fingers)
• Tree nuts (almond butter in the pumpkin pie variation)
• Egg (savoury eggy porridge)
• Oats and any milk used may also be relevant if you are still introducing wheat/gluten or dairy.

Allergen Substitutions

• Swap nut butters for hemp seeds or hulled tahini if nuts haven't been introduced yet
• Simply skip the egg variation until egg has been safely introduced
