Baby-Friendly Nut Loaf

Another meat free Monday dish that packs a punch nutritionally. The addition of hemp, nuts and seeds means it is full of protein and iron. This dish is also filled with fibre, which is so important for gut health, as well as healthy fats, vitamins and minerals. This dish is great with a big tray of roast veggies or a simple salad.

The nut loaf freezes well (ideally pre-sliced) but also lasts about 5 days in the fridge. The mince like texture means it is suitable from 6+ months. Add a sauce or gravy for extra moisture if needed.

Age & Texture Guidance

Suitable from around 6 months. From 6–9 months, offer soft, thick fingers of loaf for bub to grasp, adding a little sauce or gravy for moisture. From 9–12 months, break into small soft pieces as finger food. From 12 months and beyond, serve in slices with the family. Always offer nuts in this ground, baked form – never whole nuts – and make sure tree nuts have been safely introduced first.

Allergen Substitutions

Use flax eggs in place of the eggs for an egg-free version, and gluten-free bread to reduce gluten. The nuts and sesame are central to this recipe, so it isn't suitable nut- or sesame-free.
