Hand wash recommended to protect the insulation and finish. The straw, mouthpiece and silicone outer sleeve are all removable for easy cleaning. Slide the silicone sleeve off and wash and dry underneath it. Water trapped between the sleeve and the steel is the most common cause of marks and odour, and it takes seconds to avoid. Dry straight after washing. Stainless steel shows water marks — faint tan or rainbow patches are dried mineral deposits from tap water, not damage. A cloth dipped in white vinegar lifts them straight off. About surface marks: the stainless body picks up fine scratches with use — straws and brushes on the inside, drops and knocks on the outside. Those marks are cosmetic, with no coating to wear through, so the cup stays completely safe and hygienic. The silicone sleeve can pick up stains from strongly coloured drinks over time. That does not affect safety, and a soak in warm soapy water usually lifts it. Avoid steel wool, scouring pads, bleach and soaking overnight.
