We all know that Weet-Bix is one of my favourite breakfasts out there. It’s a wholegrain, full of fibre and other important vitamins, and fortified with iron. It’s a pretty great all-rounder for babies, but we know variety is important for babes so finding exciting new ways to serve it is great to mix things up.
"I would never have thought to make weetbix into a ball. My little girl loves these" - Tanie (Baby Mumma)
Quick Recipe Snapshot
Prep time: 5–10 minutes
Cook time: No cook
Makes: 4 balls per 2 Weet-Bix
Freezer friendly: Best fresh
Texture: Soft, sticky
Age & Texture Guidance
Best offered from 9 months and up. The sticky texture is harder for younger babies, as without developed oral motor skills it can ball up in the mouth.
9–12 months: flatten slightly into soft discs rather than firm balls to make them easier to manage.
12 months+: roll into balls as written and serve as a soft snack.
Allergens Present
Wheat/gluten (Weet-Bix) and dairy (milk).
Allergen Substitutions
Swap the cow's milk for water or a plant-based milk, and use a gluten-free wheat-biscuit cereal in place of Weet-Bix.
Why We Love This Recipe

There is no end to the variation of these you can make! Weetbix works with both sweet and savoury flavours. Other favourites of ours are pumpkin pie (mashed pumpkin + mixed spice), banana bread (mashed banana + nutmeg), raspberry cheesecake (mashed raspberries + ricotta).

Storage Instructions
Best served fresh on the day they are made. Leftovers can be kept in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 2 days — they will firm up, so allow them to come to room temperature before serving. These are not ideal for freezing as the texture becomes crumbly.
Nutrition Notes
Weet-Bix is a wholegrain cereal that is fortified with iron and provides fibre, while the grated carrot adds a little extra veg and natural sweetness. Serving alongside a milk feed or a vitamin C–rich fruit can support iron absorption.
Parent Tip
Keep a few flavour combos up your sleeve — pumpkin pie, banana bread and raspberry cheesecake all work beautifully, so you can mix up brekky without a whole new recipe.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I make these dairy-free?
Yes — simply use water or a plant-based milk in place of the cow's milk.
Why are my balls falling apart?
Add the liquid a little at a time until the Weet-Bix is soft enough to hold together. Too much liquid makes them too wet to roll.
What age are these suitable for?
We suggest from 9 months, as the sticky texture is easier to manage once oral motor skills are more developed.
Can I prep these ahead?
They are best fresh, but you can make them a few hours ahead and keep them covered in the fridge until snack time.
