Nutrition Notes
Almond meal and egg give these little cakes protein and healthy fats, while Greek yoghurt adds calcium and a soft, moist crumb. The orange brings a zesty hit of vitamin C. The added sugar makes them a sometimes-treat for older children.
Parent Tip
The cake texture itself is perfect for bubs of all ages — simply leave out or reduce the sugar to make them suitable for younger little ones, and skip the icing.
Frequently Asked Questions
From what age are these suitable?
As a treat with the sugar, these are best for children over 2 as a lunchbox snack. To make them suitable for younger bubs, omit or reduce the sugar and leave off the icing — the texture itself is fine from 6 months.
Can I make them dairy free?
Use a dairy-free yoghurt and cream cheese alternative. The almond meal is central to the texture, so these suit little ones who have had tree nuts.
Do I have to ice them?
No — the icing is optional and adds extra sugar. The cakes are lovely plain, especially for younger children.
Can I freeze them?
Yes — freeze the un-iced cakes for up to 3 months and ice once thawed.
