Ingredients

  • 250g Beef Mince
  • 1 Carrot (Chopped Finely)
  • 1/2 Cup Crushed Tomatos
  • 1/2 tsp taco spice
  • 1/4 cup water

Directions

  • Preheat fry pan over medium heat. Add mince and cook for 2-3 mins until brown.
  • Add carrot and crushed tomatos, Cook whilst stiring for another 5 minutes.
  • Add taco spice and water. Reduce to a simmer and continue cooking until it thickens.

Storage Instructions

Store in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 3 days. This mince freezes well for up to 2 months — portion into small containers for quick breakfasts. Reheat until piping hot all the way through, then cool to a safe temperature before serving.

Nutrition Notes

Beef mince is an easy, budget-friendly way to get iron and zinc into bub's morning, and starting the day with an iron-rich food helps top up the stores babies need from around 6 months. The carrot and tomato add fibre and a little vitamin C to help with iron absorption.

Parent Tip

Choose a salt-reduced taco or spice blend, or simply use a pinch of mild paprika and cumin so the dish stays gentle for little tummies. For younger babies, grate the carrot finely so it softens right down.

Frequently Asked Questions

From what age can babies have this?

The soft mince suits babies from around 6 months. The larger pieces of carrot are best for babies 8 months and over with a pincer grasp — for younger bubs, grate or finely mince the vegetables.

Can I use a different mince?

Absolutely. Chicken, turkey, lamb or pork mince all work well. Red meats like beef and lamb give the biggest iron boost.

How do I keep the salt low?

Skip added salt and check the label on your spice mix, choosing a low-sodium blend. The crushed tomatoes and a little spice bring plenty of flavour on their own.
