What we like

  • Sodium (salt): The sodium is 350mg per 100g and we are aiming for less than 400mg per 100g. As there is added salt, this isn't a "low sodium product", classified as "moderate" sodium.

  • Total Fat: 12.7g per 100g, which is above the recommended 10g per 100g.  The saturated fat is 1.5g per 100g (aim for below 3g).

  • Sugar: This product has 14.7g per 100g, ideally sugar content is below 15g per 100g as a moderate sugar product (less than 5g per 100g is low and less than 15g per 100g is moderate).

  • Fibre: 4.1g per serve. We want 3g or more per serve. Good source or high fibre is considered over 4g per serve and excellent or very high in fibre is considered over 7g of fibre per serve.

What we like less

High in total fat with 12.7g per 100g. This is higher than the guidelines recommend (anything over 10g per 100g is high). The cost: These are expensive in comparison to other muffins on the market .Texture: Crumbly in your fingers but once mixed with saliva the muffin clumps and becomes claggy. Similar mouth feel to soft white bread.

 Packaging Claims

  • 40% reduced sugar

  • 4 Health Star rating.

The Take Home

A convenient snack option with a fun kids activity on the back of the pack (cut and paste). This “kids” version of a muffin with Bluey marketing is a lot more expensive than an “adults” version of a muffin. Apart from having a lower sugar content than the regular variety (not marketed to kids), the sodium, total fat, saturated fat and fibre contents are similar.
